Why Truck Stops Are My Favorite Place to Sleep

As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, there are several safe and legal places to sleep overnight in your car. But, if you know me, you’d know that my favorite place to sleep in my car is at truck stops. So I wanted to make a dedicated blog post talking about why I like sleeping at truck stops so much. These are my personal preferences, but if your personal preferences line up with mine, then you might enjoy sleeping at truck stops too!

Okay, here’s the list of WHY I love sleeping at truck stops.

1. They’re everywhere

2. They’re usually right off of an exit

3. There are usually a lot of parking spaces

4. They’re well lit

5. There are usually (not always, but usually) other people sleeping at them

6. There’s a 24 hours store and bathroom

7. Most of them don’t have “no parking” signs

8. I’ve never really had many negative experiences with people bothering me or being too loud

9. I’ve only ever gotten kicked out of a truck stop ONCE in the past nine years

10. I almost always feel safe at them (for all the reasons listed above)

So those are most of the reasons why I love sleeping at truck stops! I know that some of the reasons on this list might not be appealing to you. You might rather sleep where it’s pitch black on some public land. Or you might prefer to sleep far, far off of a highway. Or you might not care about having a bathroom near you. And so other places might be more fitting for you!

But if you have any of the same preferences that I do, then truck stops might become your favorite place to sleep, too!
